Description "A delightful spring-blooming native [cultivar] for shade, it carpets the shady border with nearly white blooms. 'May Breeze' will spread and fill in around bulbs or perennials that are late to emerge. A small-statured wild sweet william with loose clusters of fragrant, pale blue, almost white flowers that drive the butterflies wild!" -- North Creek Nurseries
Cultivation Phlox divaricata 'May Breeze' is an ideal flowering ground cover for shade. It will tolerate more sun in cooler areas, or where the soil remains consistently moist during summer. Very easy to grow in a variety of soils, it will slowly colonize via a fibrous rhizomatous root system. It is not an aggressive species, and it combines well with other shade garden favorites. The blooming period occurs mid to late spring and can extend for over a month.
Additional Notes Phlox divaricata 'May Breeze' was selected by Dutch designer Piet Oudolf, and introduced by North Creek Nurseries.
Note: Early spring shipments might include plants that have not yet broken dormancy, or have not been vernalized and will be frost-tender. Please use your best judgment when selecting your preferred ship week.
