'Lucerne' makes an effective ground cover for the front of a sunny perennial flower bed. It will tolerate some shade and will grow well in transitional areas, however the blooms will not be as profuse. It is a moisture loving species that is happy growing in average to poor, well-drained soil. Mature clumps can be divided every 2 to 3 years to avoid over crowding and maintain a vigorous flower production.
