"Delightful, golden-yellow flowers are borne in axillary clusters along reflexing stems from late summer into fall. Reliable, deep green, glossy foliage remains clean throughout the growing seasons. Not an aggressive runner, 'Solar Cascade' is a clump forming perennial reaching knee height, maxing out somewhere between the taller 'Fireworks' and more compact 'Golden Fleece'. Performs best in moist to average garden soil under full sun or partial shade; extremely drought tolerant once established." -- North Creek Nurseries
"Solidago rugosa 'Solar Cascade' was developed by the Cincinnati Zoo Botanical Garden Native Endangered Plant Program as part of its efforts to save the species. ‘Solar Cascade’ is a clump-forming perennial with short rhizomes that spread less aggressively than other goldenrods. It has arching panicles of small bright golden yellow flowers that attract butterflies and bees and is drought tolerant once established." -- Missouri botanical Garden
"Solidago 'Solar Cascade' is a selection of the federally endangered Solidago shortii...a native only to a few small populations in Indiana and adjacent Kentucky. Solidago shortii is similar to Solidago rugosa with short rhizomes compared to more aggressive spreading species. In the wild it is found on alkaline clay slopes, but is well adapted to most garden conditions. The 30" tall stalks are topped from late August through October with showy panicles of gold...a hummingbird treat. If you enjoy rare natives like this, please contribute to your state's efforts to preserve natural rare plant habitats while you rail against ridiculous federal laws that limit their propagation and sale." -- Plant Delights
