Liatris borealis
Description
Tall blazing star is a tall species of Liatris easily reaching a height of 5'. The fluffy pink to purple flower clusters appear on smooth, erect stems and are larger than on other varieties.
Cultivation
Liatris scariosa will thrive in average to poor soil so long as it is very well drained. Because of its height and large flower clusters, it can be an eye catching addition to any dry perennial border where it can take advantage of full sun. Blooms in late summer, August and September. Zones a-8
Propagation
Best propagated from seed. They may be collected and stored, but will required cold stratification and scarification before sowing. Mature clumps may be divided in early spring.
Additional Notes
Liatris aspera is very well suited for cut flower arrangements. It attracts birds, hummingbirds and butterflies. It is threatened or endangered in much of its native range
