Meehania cordata

Also known as:

Meehan's mint

heart leaf meehania

heart-leafed meehania

Scientific Synonyms:

Meehania cordata's flowers are pale purple 1" in length and distinctly mint-like in their tubular asymmetrical form. Compact and low growing, it will form mats with relatively large flowers atop 4" stems. It is native to the Mid-Atlantic woodlands.

Meehan's mint forms low-growing, dense mats, and will colonize via stolons, but is not invasive like its introduced cousin Glechoma hederaccea (gill over the ground, ground ivy). It is very adaptable, and not particular about soil pH. It will tolerate more light where the soil is kept consistently moist. It makes an ideal shade garden ground cover and weed suppressant. Blooms May to July. Zone 5-7
