grass of Parnassus

Scientific Synonyms:

Single flowers appear at the end of delicate stalks up to 2' in height. Parnassia asarifolia is a plant of exquisite beauty. Once established it will delight you with a mound of heart-shaped leaves and prolific bursts of white, green-veined flowers.

Certainly a good choice for a wet, boggy, even swampy area of the garden. It may be planted in 1:1 peat to sand ratio, to ensure a proper level of acidity and drainage. Do not allow grass of Parnassus to dry out during summer. Blooms in August and September. Zones 6-7

Propagate from seed in fall, or by very careful division of established clumps.

Additional Notes

Contrary to what could be believed judging by the common name, grass of Parnassus is not a grass at all.
