Cultivation

Populus deltoides is the fastest growing tree native to the US, with annual growth of as much as 13' per year. adaptable to a wide range of soils and conditions. Can be grown in low lying wet spots and around water features, so long as the roots are not subjected to permanent inundation. Established trees are also very drought tolerant due to their deep tap roots. This however makes the tree a liability if grown in urban settings, where the root system can be a hazard to water mains.
