Scientific Synonyms:

Zizia cordata

Description

Zizia aptera is an exceptional species with pleasing, heart shaped leaves, and numerous tight umbels of small yellow flowers. This zizia will remind you of a yellow Queen Anne's lace, but on a tidy 1'-3' tall plant. Its branching stems are reddish.

Cultivation

Though short lived, heartleaf Alexanders are easy to grow in a variety of soil and light conditions. They will do well in lightly shaded woodland gardens as well as in perennial flower borders. They may be used as a specimen, but are more spectacular when clumped. They are native coast to coast except for a handful of southern states. Blooms May and June. Zones 3-8

Propagation

Propagate from seed, or by division of mature clumps when dormant in spring or fall.
