Native Perennials - Ephemerals:

 These spring ephemerals are perennial woodland wildflowers that complete their above ground growing cycle in a very short period time before going dormant. These species are found in deciduous forests and have adapted to take advantage of the narrow window in spring when the soil has begun to warm, but the tree canopy has not yet blocked the sunlight from reaching the forest floor.
