Description Schizachyrium scoparium 'MinnBlueA', AKA Blue Heaven® is a clumping, upright, highly ornamental grass. The key characteristics that differentiate it from the parent species, are slightly a slightly taller and more erect form, as well as bluish foliage that shifts more strikingly to pinkish and mauve hues as the plant matures in summer. As with the straight species, you can expect a stunning fall show when the plant turns to shades of gold and red. It typically grows to a height of 24 to 36", and up to 48" or more when in bloom.
Cultivation Easy to grow under harsh conditions. Too much shade, moisture, and overly fertile soils can cause the plant to get leggy and flop over.
Additional Notes Blue HeavenTM was selected from a seedling population grown at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul, MN. The parents of Blue HeavenTM came from Benton County in central Minnesota.
U.S. Plant Patent PP17,310 was issued on December 26, 2006.
Note: Early spring shipments might include plants that have not yet broken dormancy, or have not been vernalized and will be frost-tender. Please use your best judgment when selecting your preferred ship week.
